Notes from the Prez… Fall Has Arrived…
by Tasha Golis
I’m so glad Fall has finally arrived in Central Florida, and that we are headed into the holiday season. There is a high temperature expected of 77 degrees today and the lake is like glass each morning. We have had a few days of cooler weather after a long hot summer. We have so much for which to be thankful.
The Annual Lake Holden Property Owners Association (LHPOA) Membership BBQ was a great way to spend a Saturday in October. Thank you, Brenda Worden for generously hosting the event in your lovely lakefront backyard. The forecasted rain held off and we had the largest turnout in years. Folks arrived by boats, jet skis, and cars. It was wonderful to meet several new homeowners and see old friends. Local favorite Mike Powell treated us to live music. Thank you, County Commissioner Uribe and State Representative Eskamani for taking the time to attend.
We held our Third Annual Pet Howl-o-ween Costume Contest. A dozen or so of our furry friends showed up in costume. Each and every dog looked adorable and every dog was well behaved. Lake Holden really loves its dogs. If you missed the fun this year, plan on attending next year. Congratulations to Jeannie Jones and her sweet Nurse pup, Abby for winning the top prize.
Cecil’s Texas Style Bar-B-Q provided smoked ribs, chicken and brisket, coleslaw and beans. We have great relationship with the folks at Cecil’s. Our LHPOA meetings are held there the 3rd Wednesday of March, May, July, September, and November. Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend these 7 pm meetings. Grab some food and learn about what’s happening on and around the lake.
Start planning now for our Saturday December 14 Christmas Boat Parade, followed by the Social hosted at the home of Rick and Lucy Fender. The boats will meet at dusk and circle the lake twice (by popular demand). Afterwards LHPOA homeowners and their guests are invited to the Fender’s for an evening of fun. Rick Richbourg and Freddie Langston have volunteered their talents to play the musical accompaniment for Christmas Caroling. Please bring your own adult beverages and covered dish or dessert to share. RSVP for the Social at www.lakeholden.org
Both the Best Decorated Boat and Best Backyard Light Display will be awarded a prize. The competition has been ramping up in the last five years. Watch the Lake Holden Property Owners Association Facebook page for more details or check out the Lake Holden Yacht Club Instagram page for photos. Take a moment to visit www.lakeholden.org. It’s full of history, interesting information, government links, and other contacts.
We will hold our Annual LHPOA homeowners meeting on Thursday January 16, 2020 at the Holden Heights Community Center at 6pm. This is traditionally our most attended meeting. Both City Commissioner Sheehan and County Commissioner Uribe have accepted our invitation to attend. Law enforcement officers and other government officials often stop in to introduce themselves to our homeowners. We will be seeking nominations for our board. We currently have seats available. To be considered for the board, a commitment to attending our bimonthly meetings is required.
I would like to thank the current LHPOA officers and board members for their considerable and volunteered hours.
Happy Holidays! See you on the lake!
